of a mountain with only the birds watching you. Avid hikers are always on the lookout for rough and rigorous terrain to explore.
Hiking the backcountry--hiking trails that are far off the beaten path--attracts many hikers. For those who are up to a good
challenge, hiking in a backcountry location where there are no hiking trails brings about a sense of accomplishment. Backcountry
hiking is typically done in areas that are considered rural or off of the beaten path. Locations where there is dense woods,
mountainous terrain and heavy brush are examples of backcountry areas.
Out Troop’s backpacking eligibility is determined from a scout's
previous experience and Rank. Typically, an age of 13 or older is preferred for the high adventure hiking trips. On some hiking
trips, the Troop plans a low-end intermediate-to-beginner hike. This young crew has the aid of coordinators will help prepare
the them with food and gear preparation. More experienced scouts will typically teach hiking essentials at Troop meetings.
The more experienced crew will plan hikes that are more challenging often
times in rough and rigorous terrain areas but always with a site of special interest like a water fall, gorge or mountain
view. All crew members are responsible for all gear and food. Crew members also help in the planning process and trail selection
process.
