The 2008 District race is now history. The pinewood derby
cars of 2008 were the fastest and best looking of any year so far! The total number of participants totaled 138 among
28 Pack Units. No other District in the Middle Tennessee Council can make this claim. The enthusiasm of the Scouting
movement is pronounced in the Natchez Trace District.
The inspection team performance was outstanding as Dean Galbreath
headed up a three person team. Three Boy Scouts (Troop 135 and Troop 1) managed the Car Impound. After Mr. Poe's "charge"
to the racers, Pack 14 performed a character driven Opening Ceremony. The crowd then showed reverence to God as young Billy
blessed the race. After much anticipation, Mr. Hawkins started the race with a resounding "count down".
Recognition goes to Cool Springs Galleria Mall and all Scout
leaders and Boy Scouts that strengthened our Derby Team: Dean Galbreath & Jeff Bruzn with Pack 597, CY Fenton & Hoyt
Condra with Pack 14, Paige Wells with Pack 233, Liz with Pack 1291, R. Teague with Pack 135 and Tommy & Karen Marr from
the Dan Beard District. Also, appreciation to Mr. Hawkins for a smooth and exciting race. Thanks also goes to Troop 135 in
Franklin (1st Presbyterian) for sponsoring the Pinewood Derby Web Site.
The Natchez Trace District Is A Pinewood Derby Machine!
What Really Matters
Like many other Cub & Family events, the Pinewood Derby
is designed to facilitate family interaction. Upon constructing the pinewood derby car, the individual talents of each scout
will excel in some areas but not in others. It's teaching a boy how to deal with these "How Do I" situations that is most
important, not winning a race.
Scouts that participated in Pack Unit Pinewood Derby races this year spend
quality time with an adult team partner(s) creating a unique car to be proudly displayed. Yes, only a hand full of scouts
will win a trophy; but, every scout that participated is a champion!
