Chairperson
The Pinewood Derby Chairperson will help to recruit, then coordinate with the Pinewood Derby Committee.
It is best to organize this group of adult volunteers in the Fall of each fiscal year several months before the actual
Derby Race.
We all know that a committee person can wear many hats. However, this event's chairperson should
ideally serve the Pack Unit in a managerial style. The chosen committee performs the tasks while
the chairperson oversees all operations.
The chairperson is typically responsible for:
- Coordinating post race tasks among committee members
- Delivering the current year's car construction rules
- Working with the Pack Unit Committee Chairperson and Pack Treasurer about a plan to
purchase the Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit from the Scout Shop and issuing to the scouts.
- Coordinating with the inspection crew and other about the possibility of planning
a Pack Unit workshop for the building of the pinewood cars.
- Aid in the training process for new volunteers
- Pack Unit PA during meetings
During the races, the Chairman will also act as the behind the scenes coordinator of
the event, coordinating solutions to all unforeseen 'emergencies' should (when) they arise. The Chairperson is also responsible
for all of the duties below if a person has not been assigned.
